Wine........the journey continues

In a previous blog post I shared how I was introduced to wine.  In my early twenties I traveled with my boss on a business trip who introduced me to Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay and for years after I ONLY ordered Kendall Jackson Chardonnay.

Okay, let's fast forward different boss, different business trip..............................  I was invited to a very nice restaurant (the name escapes me).  The server presented us with a slender black book that was their wine list.  Of course no problem I would just order my regular Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay.  I picked up the wine list as if I were really reading it, all the while looking for my beloved Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay.  Page after page no KJ Chard :-(   Panic begin to set in what was I going to do what was I going to order or even pronounce not to give away the fact that beyond Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay I knew absolutely nothing about wine.

I was saved because our server asked our host what she would like.  For the sake of this blog post we will call our host Reva.  Reva did not select a wine out of the book that was the wine list she told the server who I learned later was a Sommelier she wanted a Chardonnay that was buttery and oaky.  My interest was peaked how could she tell this Sommelier she wanted something buttery and oaky and he know what she wanted.

Well, less than 5 minutes later the Sommelier presented our host with a taste of a buttery, oaky wine and she said "that's it".  I thought to myself how was this possible no name was given just a taste profile and the Sommelier was able to select the perfect wine.  I was fascinated and from that moment on I was on a quest to learn all I could about wine.

A Flight of Chardonnay

Hi everyone, just stopped by to share thoughts on a 3 wine Chardonnay flight tasted during episode 2 of Scandal.  LOVE SCANDAL!

1). 2012 Frei Borthers Chardonnay - A beautiful golden color, baked apple on the nose and mouth.- rich and creamy. If you like oak, toast, and baked apples this Chardonnay is for you.

2). 2012 Nicolas Potel Pouilly Fuisse this crisp, clean Chardonnay is lovely. Pretty yellow. Smoke, mineral, and toast with a little orange blossom. YUM!

3). 2010 Vincent Savestre Ladoix Premier Cru Les Hautes Mourottes AOC (100% Chardonnay Grapes). Burgundy, France. Chilled at a perfect 50 degrees. Apple and peach fused together. Crisp peachy finish - All of them were great but this one is our favorite
:-)

Chablis!

Chablis!

I am a white wine drinker by choice.  I like sunshine in my glass.  I drink all wines because I am a wine lover, but if I am not drinking in my professional capacity, I prefer a nice dry to off-dry white.

This past weekend I had a beautifully steely Chablis paired with oysters.  Let me say, it was absolutely delicious. 100% Chardonnay grapes.

A classic Chablis nose of green fruit, ocean breeze and iodine a prelude for delicious flavors that have delicate minerality.  Clean and dry finish.  A very good example of the terrior - classic Chablis.  Enjoy!
